But lately politics have been on my mind a lot. Particularly the presidential race, as well as the senatorial race in Utah. The presidential race pits the sitting President, Barack Obama, against Mitt Romney. The presidential race has garnered a lot of attention nationally, so it's normally mentioned in the daily newspapers.
Some articles I've read recently made some good points. One from Fox News was about how President Obama is painting Romney as being inconsistent and wishy-washy. But how is the President doing himself with being consistent? Not very good according to this article.
I have been giving our duties as citizens a lot of thought recently. As Americans we have the privilege and responsibility to vote for our leaders. We need to use this every time there is an election. There is one coming up in November. I work at a hotel, cooking breakfast for the guests. I always try to keep the TV in the kitchen, which is always supposed to be turned on, on the news. I keep it on local news until it ends, then change the channel to either Fox News or CNN.
I like doing this because it enables me to keep current on national and world news and events. It also enables the guests who are there at the time to view what is going on. It does start some interesting conversations. I do this as a service to the guests. I don't like to give my personal views on issues to them. But it is interesting to hear some of theirs.

One day a born again Christian from Texas spend an hour discussing with me the evils of Obama. I personally don't like Obama, and I thought it was a fun discussion. Sometimes I hear guests comment on a story that just played on the TV, and once it even sparked a loud disagreement. I don't remember what the disagreement was about, but it was entertaining to listen to.
Another race that is important to Utah is the senatorial race. The Republican, Orrin Hatch, is the presumed favorite. He seems to me like he already won the election. His opponent, Scott Howell, has got to the media his desire to have debates between himself and Hatch. Hatch is not willing to accommodate him. They have a few debates scheduled, which Hatch claims will suffice.
I don't agree. He used the same tactic during the primary race against Dan Liljenquist. They had one debate, one, which was aired at 9 AM on a weekday, on KSL radio. Not very many people can or do listen to the radio at 9 AM.
I think this is rather shady politics. KSL offered to spend a lot of money to put together another debate. He claimed he was to busy. I think someone who thinks they are that above someone else do not deserve to be in public office. He has been a Utah senator for 30 years already. 30! That is over half my moms life time! What has happened in the last 30 years?
Our country has been losing many freedoms. Our government has done such things as Fast and Furious,
Guantánamo Bay, the Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, and many other thing that have curtailed our freedoms. One claim as to why Hatch deserves another 6 years in our government is that he has experience, and we have to have that at this critical time in our country. When has there not been a critical time in this country? If there hasn't been it is the exception to the norm. What we need in the government at this time is honorable, principled leaders. We don't need someone who I believe he has proven he does not value our freedom as much as he does his office. If he loved our freedom he would have done something to preserve it.
One other article I want to share was also found on Fox News. It was about how in our schools we are not teaching our children, our nations future, about the evils of communism. Many don't understand that communism is a terrible thing, not a good thing.
